About Revecca Winery

We specialise exclusively in Commandaria.

Each year, we produce a few different expressions based on our harvest and ongoing experiments. Our focus remains traditional, and Commandaria is what we know best.

To put it simply, we’re happy with what we do.

Our vineyards are all located within the Commandaria region and are naturally suited for producing this style of wine. More than that, our entire approach — from how we farm to how we make wine — is tailored around Commandaria. Producing other styles would require planting different vineyards, likely outside the region, and changing the way we work. It’s just not what we’re here for.

You’ll find us in Agios Mamas, at the heart of the Commandaria region. It’s a small, hillside village in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains.

Built during the Byzantine era over a thousand years ago, it remains a quiet and humble place today. Our winery sits inside a restored village house, just below the main church.

Revecca was the name of the woman who once lived in the old village home that now houses the winery and folk museum. The space was restored in her memory, and the name felt like the right way to honour that.

We began bottling and selling Commandaria commercially at Revecca Winery in 2015. However, our family has been tending vineyards and making wine informally long before that. Some of our vineyards have been in use for generations, for longer than we can trace.

About Commandaria

Commandaria is a naturally sweet wine made from sun-dried grapes, produced exclusively in a specific area of Cyprus.

The production zone includes 14 villages and is protected as a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) product. It’s made from two native grape varieties, Xynisteri and Mavro, and follows a defined method that has evolved over the millennia.

While the process is tightly regulated, there’s still room for each winemaker to shape their own style.

Some Commandarias lean toward rich and oxidative; others are fresher, more lifted, or even a little smoky. The differences can come from small decisions: how long the grapes are dried, how fermentation is handled, how long the wine is aged, and how it’s blended.

There is no single template.

At Revecca we produce a few different Commandarias every year, each one made in small quantities and by hand. What sets them apart is expression.

We don’t push for extremes, but we do try to understand each vintage, and make wines that reflect our heritage and process. Our aim is to make Commandaria that feels alive — whether it’s bright and lifted, or deep and contemplative.

The style might vary, but what stays the same is our focus on the vineyards and our commitment to keeping the process honest.

Yes — but that doesn’t mean it always tastes the same. The natural sweetness comes from the grapes themselves, which are dried under the sun before fermentation. What changes is the balance. Some styles are dense and syrupy, while others feel surprisingly bright and easy to drink. That’s where good winemaking comes in.

The grapes are harvested when fully ripe, then laid out to dry under the sun. This concentrates the sugars and alters the character of the fruit.

Once dried, the grapes are crushed and fermented. Because of the high sugar content, fermentation stops naturally before all the sugar is consumed. That’s what gives Commandaria its sweetness.

The wine is then aged in oak barrels for at least two years, often longer.

It depends on the style, but in general, Commandaria keeps well after opening. The high sugar and alcohol levels help preserve it.

We recommend sealing the bottle properly and storing it in the fridge. In our experience, most bottles can stay fresh for several weeks, even months, without issue. It’s one of the reasons we use resealable closures on all our wines.

It depends on the style, but in general, Commandaria can age for decades. Some expressions are best enjoyed young, while others continue to evolve in the bottle for 10, 20, even 30 years or more. The key is balance. If a wine starts off with good structure, it’ll likely keep improving with age.

We’ve opened bottles from the 1980s that were still full of life. That said, not every Commandaria is made to last that long. If in doubt, feel free to ask.

Planning Your Visit

Yes, we’re open Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 16:00.

You’re welcome to visit anytime during those hours. Hospitality is an important part of our work, and we’re always happy to welcome visitors — even if it’s a spontaneous stop.

If you’re a small group up to four people, there’s no need to book. For larger groups, or if you’d like to visit outside regular hours, it’s best to contact us in advance so we can prepare.

We also offer an online booking option for those who prefer to plan ahead.

Most people visit by car. Agios Mamas is about 30 minutes from Limassol. Public transport is limited, but Bus 65 runs between the village and the city.

Yes. We recommend parking at the large public lot just behind the Church of Saint Mamas. It’s free, spacious, and only a short walk from Revecca.

We kindly ask that you avoid parking on the village roads, as it can cause blockages and inconvenience to local homes.

Yes. Children are very welcome, though of course tastings are for adults only. We have a few non-alcoholic options available.

No. During some of our seasonal events, food may be offered, but it isn’t part of our daily offering.

If you’re looking for lunch in the area, we’re happy to recommend a few local spots.

Unfortunately not. Our space is housed within a restored old village home, and while we’ve made it comfortable and welcoming, it wasn’t built with accessibility in mind.

We’re happy to assist however we can. Feel free to contact us if you have specific questions.

Pets are welcome in our courtyard and outdoor spaces. We ask that they not enter the indoor museum or production areas.

Yes. If you’re a writer, photographer, researcher, or anyone working on something Commandaria-related, please get in touch directly.

We’d love to support your work, but we ask that you don’t just book online — give us a call first so we can make the time.

Yes. While most people join for a tour and tasting, we’re happy to host visitors who just want to walk through the museum or chat over a drink. We always have a few non-alcoholic options on hand.
